NCDOT to Complete Resurfacing of Williamson Avenue Ahead of Student Move-ins at Elon University

GREENSBORO -Work will begin next week on an N.C. Department of Transportation project to resurface a 1.2 mile section of Williamson Avenue in Elon.
Nighttime paving work will start on Monday, July 21 and is expected to wrap up Saturday, Aug 1. This work is scheduled between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night along the construction route from Ball Park Drive to N.C. 100. During this time, one of two lanes will be closed nightly, with both lanes open to traffic during the day.
Williamson Avenue serves as a connector route for Elon University, and is along the main business district of the Town of Elon; therefore nighttime construction is the best alternative for preventing delays and accidents during a major project like this one. In order to reduce the impact to the citizens, and businesses along this route, NCDOT worked with Town and Elon University leaders to determine the best construction schedule ahead of the freshman move-in date of August 22.
"We thank the Town and University for their partnership in helping us complete this important project that will help improve the overall health of the local infrastructure," NCDOT Division Engineer Mike Mills said.
