NCDOT to Open New Stretch of Fayetteville Outer Loop from Murchison Road to Bragg Boulevard on Monday

RALEIGH - Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation plans to open the 1.7-mile section of the Fayetteville Outer Loop from Murchison Road to Bragg Boulevard to traffic on Monday, Aug. 4.

This section of the Outer Loop is critical in relieving congestion around Fort Bragg and connecting two major arteries between Fort Bragg and Fayetteville.

The first section of the Fayetteville Outer Loop from I-95 to Ramsey Street opened to traffic in 2005. The sections from Murchison Road to Ramsey Street and from Bragg Boulevard to the All-American Freeway are scheduled to be complete in August 2016. In addition, the section from the All-American Freeway to Cliffdale Road is scheduled to be let to contract in August with completion in 2018.

The stretch from Cliffdale Road to Raeford Road is one of 91 projects critical to statewide mobility NCDOT anticipates it will be able to fund under the new Strategic Transportation Investments law, which changes how the department funds and prioritizes transportation projects across the state and allows it to make more efficient use of its existing resources over the next decade. This project will complete the connection between I-95 and Raeford Road.

Along with this, in July, the N.C. Board of Transportation adopted a resolution to name the portion of I-295 from I-95 to Raeford Road as The Airborne and Special Operations Highway. A dedication ceremony will be held at the Airborne Special Operations Museum on Saturday, Aug. 16 in conjunction with the 2014 National Airborne Day Celebration Ceremony.
