NCDOT to Replace Bridge on N.C. 62 Near Julian

RALEIGH - Weather permitting, work will begin next week on an N.C. Department of Transportation project to replace the bridge over Chocolate Creek on N.C. 62 north of Julian in Guilford County. On Monday, May 5, a section of N.C. 62 will be closed between Alamance Church Road and Ferguson Road, and will remain closed during construction of the new bridge. The new bridge is expected to be complete by Friday, Nov. 7. Once the new bridge is open, the contractor may continue landscaping and vegetation work for an additional 180 days.During the closure, motorists will use Alamance Church Road, Garret Store Road and Ferguson Road as the signed detour route. NCDOT encourages motorists to pay attention, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely. This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Built in 1936, the existing bridge is reaching the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands. The new bridge will accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles, as it will not be subject to the load restrictions of the current bridge.
