RALEIGH - Tuesday night's heavy rain in the Raleigh area washed out a pipe that runs under Optimist Farm Road between Lake Wheeler Road and Johnson Pond Road south of the city.
The damage means the road will be closed for up to two weeks, weather permitting, as N.C. Department of Transportation crews replace the pipe and rebuild the damaged road.
A detour route is in place using Johnson Pond Road, Ten-Ten Road and Lake Wheeler Road.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for road closure and detour information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
