Portion of Cleveland County Road to Close During U.S. 74 Bypass Construction

SHELBY-As construction on the U.S. 74 Bypass in Shelby continues to progress, theN.C. Department of Transportationwill close a portion of Plato Lee Road next week to begin work on the newest section of the Cleveland County project.

On Monday, July 21, Plato Lee Road will be closed from Beaver Dam Church Road to Artee Road. Local access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the road closure.

A signed detour will be in place to help motorists navigate the closure. Motorists traveling east on West Dixon Boulevard will take Washburn Switch Roadto Hoyle Road/Artee Road, where they can turn onto Plato Lee Road. Motorists traveling south on Plato Lee Road will reverse the detour.

The closure is expected to remain in place for six months while crews construct a bridge that will carry traffic over the new bypass.

Construction on the U.S. 74 Bypass started last year. A $33 million contract for the next two sections of bypass construction was awarded this spring.
