RALEIGH - The right lane of I-40 West is closed for less than one-half mile at
mile marker 8, near the Cold Springs Creek Road exit in Haywood County. The
closure is a precaution after some rocks fell on two occasions from the mountainside
at that location on Thursday. The initial rockslide was in the afternoon, and
the second in the evening.
No rocks fell on the roadway, and a concrete barrier has been put up
at the location as a precautionary measure. The closure is in place until at
least Monday, June 2, at noon. The cause of the slides will be investigated
before a decision is made to re-open the lane.
