The N.C. Department of Transportation
will close a section of U.S. 13 just south of the North Carolina and Virginia State line in Gates County from 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, through Monday, Oct. 27, weather permitting. The closure is necessary for NCDOT crews to replace three 96 inch pipes under the road just south of Paige Reddick Road with a 34 foot by 11 foot aluminum box culvert. Detours will be in place for vehicular and tractor trailer traffic. During the closure, vehicular through traffic will use Paige Reddick Road and Johnny Harrell Road to travel around the project site. Local traffic will be able to access the area up to the site of the closure. Tractor trailer traffic will be directed to U.S. 158 and N.C. 32. Message boards will be in place directing tractor trailer traffic to their detour. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit the NCDOT traffic website or follow NCDOT on Twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website. To access it, type "m.ncdot.gov" into the browser of your smartphone. Then, bookmark it to save for future reference.
