Raleigh - The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a contract toresurface about 4.5 miles of U.S. 74 from Union Valley Road to White Marsh Southwest in Columbus County.
The work will include milling, resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction. Crews can begin as early as August 31, and work is anticipated to be complete by November.
There will be no detours associated with the work, but lane closures may shift traffic patterns or cause congestion at times. Motorists are advised to use caution, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
Highland Paving Company of Fayetteville is the contractor for the project.
This is one of 25 road and bridge projects recently awarded by the Department of Transportation. The contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidder, as required by state law. They are worth $76.1 million, which is $4.3 million below NCDOT engineers' estimated cost.
