Wilmington - Starting at 8 a.m., Monday, June 22, and ending at 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close the N.C. 403 Bridge at Six Runs Creek, north of Clinton, to allow crews to repair a pipe culvert that has been damaged by severe shoulder deterioration.
N.C. 403 was widened several years ago, leaving a narrow shoulder at this location. Storm water running off the pavement over a period of time has eroded the shoulder, resulting in damage to the pipe culvert under the road. By extending the existing pipe culvert, NCDOT will be able to widen the shoulder, providing for a safe location for motorists and emergency vehicles to pull over.
While work is taking place, northbound traffic will be detoured onto Keener Road, McCullen Road, Darden Road and back to N.C. 403. Southbound traffic will follow the same route but in reverse. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
