N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will replace the bridge on Holman Mill Road over Reedy Branch near Snow Camp in Alamance County beginning Monday, Feb. 2. The work should be completed by Friday, May 22.
Motorists will still be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area.
They can used the signed
detour route along Holman Mill Road, Griffin Road, Snow Camp Road, Workman Road and Quakenbush Road and are advised to use caution in the area and allow extra travel time to reach their destination safely.
This project is part of the department's statewide bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The bridge was built in 1957 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. That means while the bridge remains safe, it has been in deteriorating condition and had weight limits set which restricted the types of vehicles that could travel across it. The new bridge will be built to current design standards and will not have weight restrictions.
