N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will replace the bridge on Peoples Creek Road over Peoples Creek in Davie County.
Beginning Monday, January 19, crews will close Peoples Creed Road in both directions, just south of Jim Frye Road. Motorists will still be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area, up to the points of closure.
Construction should be complete and the road reopened by Friday, May 8.
Motorists can use the signed
detour route along N.C. 801. They are advised to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely.
This project is part of the department's statewide
bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The current bridge was built 1966 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. That means while the bridge remains safe, it has been in deteriorating condition and had weight limits set which restricted the types of vehicles that could travel across it. The new bridge will be built to current design standards and will not have the weight restrictions of the current bridge.
