N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will replace the bridge on Town Creek Road over Town Creek near Eden in Rockingham County.
Beginning Monday, January 26, crews will close Town Creek Road in both directions near the bridge. Motorists will be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area.
The road should reopen by Friday, May 29.
Motorists can use the signed
detour route along N.C. 14 to Bethlehem Church Road to Moir Mill Road to Quesinberry Road. They are advised to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely.
This project is part of the department's statewide
bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The current bridge was built in 1960 and was deemed be structurally deficient. That means the bridge is still safe, but is in deteriorating condition and needs to be replaced.
