Register your school to participate in NCDOT's 17th Annual Bridge Building Competition
Raleigh - The N.C. Department of Transportation invites all middle and high schools to participate in what has become an exciting, yet competitive event at the NCDOT -- the 17th Annual Statewide Model Bridge Building Competition. The competition is designed to create a greater awareness of STEM education and its relationship to transportation careers provided by NCDOT. The registration deadline is November 20, 2015.
According to Kevin Bowen, NCDOT State Bridge Construction Engineer, "This competition is about more than building a bridge. It's about education, communication, careers and service to the public. We believe students will best experience tomorrow's career opportunities by working with industry professionals to apply technical applications to today's problems. Plus, it's a lot of fun!
"The competition encourages active involvement of students in constructing and applying mathematical concepts, expanding problem solving skills and team work, as well as promoting research and presentation skills.
Four regional competitions will be held across the state on Friday, March 11, 2016 in Winterville, Raleigh, Asheboro and Morganton.
Middle and high school students will compete in separate competitions. One middle and high school from each region will advance to the state final competition, which will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 in Raleigh at the N.C. Department of Transportation Building.
