SOUTHPORT - On Saturday, July 4, the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Ferry Division is participating in a program with the Transportation Security Administration's Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) Team, Brunswick and New Hanover County Sheriff's Departments and emergency services, and the United States Coast Guard. The exercise will involve ferry terminals at Southport and Fort Fisher and all attached vessels. This is an exercise in which local and federal agencies work together to supplement existing security resources.
This exercise will not affect the ferry schedule.
This program has been implemented at various transportation modes and facilities across the nation over the last few years. It is not taking place in response to a threat to the homeland, the terminals, ferry vessels, or any other transportation venue or facility.
