NCDOT Replacing 57-year-old Bridge near Westmoore

RALEIGH TheN.C. Department of Transportationwill beginroad closures and construction on Wednesday, Feb. 11, toreplace the bridge over Williams Creekon Willie Road near Westmoore in Moore County.

The bridge was built in 1958 and is considered functionally obsolete, which means it was built to design standards no longer in use, such as narrow lanes, inadequate under-clearances and insufficient load-carrying capacity. It needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands to make the route safer and more effective for drivers.

The new bridge should be open by June 10.

There will be a signeddetourusing Willie Road, Adams Road, Davis Road, Steed Road, Brewer Road and Dover Church Road. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

This project is part of the department's statewidebridge programto improve the condition of the state's bridges.

NCDOT awarded the contract for the project to TCB Builders from Lexington on November 13, 2014 for $584,0390. Thecontractwas awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
