RALEIGH TheN.C. Department of Transportationplans to begin replacing culverts on U.S. Highway 311 at Sycamore Creek and Bob's Branch in Randolph County on Monday, July 13. Crews will remove and replace the existing culverts, one at a time, detouring traffic.
The existing culverts were structurally deficient, meaning that while the culverts were safe, they were in relatively poor condition, or had insufficient load-carrying capacity. The insufficient load capacity could be due to age, the original design or to wear and tear.
There will be a signed detour using Interstate 74 to Cedar Square Road.Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
Construction for the project is scheduled to be complete in November with traffic returning to normal, while crews will continue adding vegetation and other work around the area with the overall completion date of May 2016.
Country Boy Landscapingof Harmony is the contractor for the $707,800 project.
