NCDOT Reschedules Weekend Bridge Work Because of Inclement Weather, Holiday Weekend Travel

CHARLOTTE -Because of inclement weather in the forecast and an upcoming holiday weekend, the N.C. Department of Transportation has rescheduled some weekend work on the N.C. 150 bridge over Lake Norman at the Catawba-Iredellcounty line.

Crews originally planned to install lane closures for four consecutive weekends forbridge preservation work. With inclement weather in the forecast this coming weekend, the work and subsequent lane closureshavebeen postponed. And as outlined in the project contract, there will be no lane closures in place during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

So, the next weekend the lane closures are scheduled to be in place is the weekend ofFriday, July 10. The lane closures will begin at 7 p.m. and be removed by the following Monday at 6 a.m.

The weekend work is scheduled for completion later next month, weather permitting. At no time will the bridge be closed to traffic completely.

The lane closuresallow contractor American Bridge Company to mill and prepare the bridge deck for a new overlay. A deck overlay helps extend the life of the bridge deck by protecting it from aging and weathering.
