Resurfacing will include detours on U.S. 64
RALEIGH TheN.C. Department of Transportationplans to start work on U.S. 64 in Asheboro on April 19. Throughout the project, which is expected to last until June 24, motorists should expect nightly work with lane closures allowed between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The work will include milling, resurfacing and pavement markings from Albemarle Road to the Nissan dealership.
There will be a signed detour with some road closures along U.S. 64. Eastbound from Davidson County, motorists should take the Connector Road to Albemarle Road, to West Walker Avenue to South Park Street back to U.S. 64. From Lambert Drive, take Sherwood Avenue to Mack Road to Albemarle Road to West Walker Avenue. From I-73 South, take the McDowell Road exit to U.S. 220 Business north to Atlantic Avenue to First Street to U.S. 64. From I-73 North, take U.S. 64 West to Brookway Road to Albemarle Road to West Walker Avenue to South Park Street back on to U.S. 64.
Westbound motorists on U.S. 64 from Ramseur should use South Park Street to West Walker Avenue to Albemarle Road to Connector Road back to U.S. 64. On I-73 North from Seagrove, take U.S. 64 East to South Park Street to West Walker Avenue to Albemarle Road to Connector Road back on to U.S. 64.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
This resurfacing is part of a $4.7 million project awarded to APAC of Greensboro. There are 21 other locations associated with this contract, which was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
