NCDOT to Begin Road Work Monday in Chatham County

RALEIGH TheN.C. Department of Transportationrecentlyawarded a contract to upgrade Jack Bennett Road just west of Big Woods Road.

The project will realign a sharp curve in the road, increasing safety for motorists and pedestrians that travel Jack Bennett Road. Thedetourwill use Jack Bennett Road, U.S. 15-501 and Lystra Road. Additionally, Chatham County school bus routes in the area will be affected. The new bus stop for students who live past Henley Road will be at the corner of Jack Bennett Road and Henley Road. The bus stop for students who live past Wood Laurel Lane will be at Jack Bennett Road and Wood Laurel Lane.

Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

Construction will begin on March 9 and should be completed by May 15.

NCDOT awarded the contract for the project to Wright ContractingfromSiler City for$750,192. It was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
