CHARLOTTE-- On Wednesday, March 18, theN.C. Department of Transportationwill close Fish Hatchery Road in Burke County to begin a bridge replacement project.
The bridge over Russell Creek was built in 1958 and is considered functionally obsolete. That means although the bridge is safe for traffic, it needs to be replaced to meet current standards.
A detour will be in place directing motoriststo Pea Ridge Rd, onto N.C.181, then back to Fish Hatchery Rd.The bridge is expected to open to traffic in mid-June.
This bridge replacement is one of12 bridge replacementprojects inBridges in Burke, Rutherfordand McDowell Counties. The 12 bridges will be constructed over the next 3 years with a final contract completion date of mid-October 2017. The contractor is R.E. Burns and Sons, Inc. and the contract amount is $7,473,172.
