The N.C. Department of Transportation will close lanes at the intersection of Ward Boulevard and Raleigh Road Parkway in Wilson starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, weather permitting. All lanes are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9.The lane closures will allow crews with S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson to complete a repaving project along Ward Boulevard between Raleigh Road Parkway and Tilghman Road. This is the last location to be repaved as part of this project. Due to the high volume of traffic through this intersection, the department determined it was best to repave this location overnight to have as little impact to traffic as possible. Should it rain, the work will be rescheduled for Wednesday night. This repaving is part of a $1.4 million contract awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. that also included repaving N.C. 58 between the Wilson city limits and the U.S. 264 bridge. This work was completed earlier this summer. The intersection of Ward Boulevard and Raleigh Road Parkway will remain open during the work. Four flag crews and one law enforcement officer will be at the intersection to guide all directions of traffic through the intersection. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
