Pharr Mill Road Bridge in Harrisburg Opening to Traffic

CHARLOTTE -The new Pharr Mill Road bridge in Harrisburg is scheduled to open to traffic today around noon, as construction continues to progress along the area's rail corridor.

The new bridge was built as part of a grade separation project that, once completed, will improve safety and mobility for both train and vehicle traffic. The project involves permanently closing the Pharr Mill Road railroad crossing and building a new roadway to connect Pharr Mill Road to Blackwelder Road over the North Carolina Railroad and N.C. 49. Permanent closure of at-grade railroad crossings reduces the risk of train/vehicle collisions.

Remaining work on the Pharr Mill Road grade separation project, which includes more roadway work near the current railroad crossing,is scheduled for completion in fall 2015.
