Raleigh -The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed
a section of Johnson Pond Road northwest of Fuquay-Varina because of a pipe
failure under the road. Due to Thursday night's heavy rain, a section of the
roadway was compromised, creating a safety issue to the traveling public at
that location.
The failure is located between Brozak Drive and West Oaks Drive. A detour is
in place, with vehicles south of the closed section being directed to Hilltop
Needmore Road, then Lake Wheeler Road, Optimist Farm Road and back to Johnson
Pond Road. Drivers north of the break will take the detour in reverse of that
order.
The closure is expected to remain in place until the third week of May, when
a pipe replacement project is anticipated to be completed.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully in the area, and watch
for detour signs. They should allow for extra time because of the detour.
