Closure will allow crews to build bridge carrying road over expressway
CHARLOTTE On Monday, Oct. 5, the N.C. Department of Transportation willclose a portion of Ansonville Road while crews construct abridge to carry the roadover the newMonroe Expressway.
Ansonville Roadwill be closed to through traffic between Berryhill Drive and Austin Grove Roaduntil June 2, 2016.During this time, traffic will be placed on an off-site detour directing motorists to use Austin Grove Road, Forest Hills School Road and Pfifer Road.
Once completed, the Monroe Expressway will improve mobility and capacity by providing a facility for high-speed regional travel while maintaining access to properties along existing U.S. 74. The roughly 20-mile road will extend from U.S. 74 near I-485 in Mecklenburg County to U.S. 74 between the towns of Wingate and Marshville in Union County.
Construction started in May, and the Expressway is scheduled to open in late 2018. Once completed, the Monroe Expressway will be operated by theNorth Carolina Turnpike Authority.
