CHARLOTTE --The N.C. Department of Transportation has reopened a portion of Old Concord Road in Charlotte that had been closed for work on a rail and highway improvement project.
Old Concord Road was closed betweenBranch Hill Circle and Farmfield Lane for roughly nine months to allow for the grade of Old Concord Road to be raised to meet the height of the future Grier Road bridge, whichwill carryGrier Road over the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR) tracks. The bridge is designed toreduce the risk of automobile/train collisions, improve safety for automobile and rail passengers, and reduce automobile and train traffic congestion.This section of OldConcord Roadwill be closed temporarily beginningMonday, Jan. 4, for about one week as crews work to place the girders for the new Grier Road bridge.
