Businesses along N.C. 5 will be open and accessible while the work goes on.
RALEIGH -The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close parts of N.C. 5 in Aberdeen starting next Tuesday while crews replace two rail crossings along the route.
Work will start at 8 a.m., Tuesday Dec. 8 on the rail crossing at the intersection of N.C. 5 and Saunders Avenue, near the old Gullistan Carpet Plant. This intersection will be closed to through traffic.
Once the contractor for Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railroad finishes work at that location, over the weekend they will begin work at the crossing at the intersection of N.C. 5 and Anderson Street near Cardinal Chemicals.
N.C. 5 will be open to local traffic and traffic to businesses along N.C. 5. The signed detour route for through traffic traveling from Pinehurst to Aberdeen will use Sandpit Road, Roseland Road, U.S. 1, N.C. 5 and the reverse for traffic traveling from Aberdeen to Pinehurst.
All work is scheduled for completion no later than Friday, Dec. 18, weather permitting.
