Removal of Edgewater Club Road Temporary Rock Surface Moved to Monday

Wilmington -To accomodate expected heavy beach traffic, the NCDOT has postponed the scheduled closure of Edgewater Club Road this Sunday by one day. Crews plan to close the road starting about 9 a.m. on Monday to begin removing a 500-foot temporary rock surface that was built on top of the road earlier this month. It is expected to take most of the day to remove the rocks, clean off the road andinspect it to make sure it is safe for traffic.

Layers of rocks were placed on the flooded section of roadway to raise vehicles above floodwater as they traveled along the road, enablingresidents in the Porters Neck area of northern New Hanover County to use the road. Itis the only way out of the area by vehicle for more than 1,000 residences, but had become virtually impassable because of high water caused by heavy rainfall in the area. Each end of the temporary road has a signal light that allows just one direction of traffic through at a time.

The rocks being hauled away will be placed at a nearby location where a New Hanover County school is planned, where they could be used as part of the construction process.
