RALEIGH TheN.C. Department of Transportationwill soon begin a project to resurface more than six miles of N.C. 20 in St. Pauls from Veterans Road to the Bladen County line.Crews plan to start work on Wednesday Sept. 9, and are scheduled to complete the work by November, weather permitting.
This project will improve the ride for motorists visiting downtown St. Pauls and traveling along N.C. 20 and includesroadway resurfacing, as well as some milling, pavement markings and signals.
The contractor will not close or narrow a lane of traffic on N.C. 20 from Veterans Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday from 6 a.m. to Sunday 9 p.m. They will work at night for that section and motorists may notice lane shifts or delays at night. Work will take place during the day with lane closures on the section out of town, from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the Bladen County line. Motorists are advised to use caution, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
Johnson Brothers Utility and Paving Company, Inc. from St. Pauls is the contractor for the $965,000 project, which was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
