Detours will affect local traffic along N.C. 87
RALEIGH TheN.C. Department of Transportationhas closed a portion of N.C. 87, in BladenCounty to begin work on a 51-year-old bridge over Hammonds Creek. This project, that began Monday, June 15, involves bridge rehabilitation including bridge deck overlay, joint replacement and painting the girders.
Drivers will follow asigned detouredfollowing Airport Road and Coley Road. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
Work is anticipated to be complete by August 15.
This bridge is one of five in the area thatare part of the department's statewidebridge programto improve the condition of the state's bridges.
The contractor for the $849,097 project is Lanford Brothers Co. that was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
