Safety Improvements Coming to Kannapolis Intersection

CHARLOTTE A Kannapolis intersection will soon undergo changes designed to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes in that area.

The intersection of Brantley Road and Little Texas Road willbecome a multi-way stop beginning Wednesday, Nov. 18. That means all traffic must stop at the intersection before proceeding withcaution. Multi-way stopsigns arerelativelylow-cost and canbe quickly installed. At a multi-way stop, driverstake turns entering the intersection, resulting in fewer and lesssevere crashes.

Currently, stop signs are in place on Little Texas Road that require motorists to stop, but traffic on Brantley Roadisn't required to stop. NCDOT studied this intersectionand determined that safety should improvefrom the installation of stop signs on Brantley Road.

Temporary digital message signs will be in place on Brantley Road aroundthe week of Nov. 11, alerting motorists to the upcoming change. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and pay attention when traveling through the area as drivers grow accustomed to the new traffic pattern.

Tonavigate a multi-way stop, the first vehicle to reach the intersectionshould move forward first. If two vehiclesreach theintersection at the same time, thedriver on the right would proceed first.

This is a state-funded safety project with an estimated cost of $10,000.
