Section of Berkley Boulevard Closed in Goldsboro

RALEIGH - A section of Berkley Boulevard near Hill Drive in Goldsboro was closed earlier today following a gas line rupture. There is not an immediate timeframe for reopening of the road.Traffic is being detoured on Central Heights Road while the closure is in place. A gas line was ruptured this morning while subcontractor crews were working on sewer line installation along Berkley Boulevard. The work was part of an N.C. Department of Transportation project to widen Berkley Boulevard.Emergency services crews and utilities companies are currently responding to the rupture. A $3 million contract was awarded to Fred Smith Company of Raleigh in June for this project, which includes adding a second southbound travel lane on Berkley Boulevard. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
