The Carolinian Celebrates 25 Years of Service May 9 and May 11

RALEIGH - North Carolina's Amtrak is celebrating the anniversary of the Carolinian passenger rail service with special activities in stations throughout the state on May 9 and May 11. The Carolinian, which operates daily between New York City and Charlotte, is celebrating its 25th year of continuous daily service.
"This is a momentous milestone for the Carolinian" said Paul Worley, Rail Division Director. Over the past 25 years we have improved stations, added capacity and focused on customer service. This has enabled us to grow the Carolinian route to where it is today. The Carolinian is an optimal transportation choice in North Carolina and between North Carolina and markets throughout the Northeast" explained Worley.
Services on the Charlotte to New York Carolinian and Raleigh to Charlotte Piedmont service have grown exponentially throughout the last two decades. There are now three daily departures and arrivals along the Raleigh to Charlotte corridor, serving almost 500,000 annual passengers. The success of these trains can largely be attributed to the critical support provided by communities across North Carolina.
Volunteers at stations along the route will host activities and offer refreshments to passengers in observance of the anniversary. Celebrations at each station will also include Amtrak Train Days festivities to celebrate what trains such as the Carolinian mean to America's transportation system and reasons to ride.
NCDOT encourages citizens to visit stations throughout the day to ride the train and for complimentary souvenirs. Amtrak Stations that will feature anniversary activities include: Rocky Mount, Wilson, Selma, Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury, Kannapolis and Charlotte. Reservations to ride the train can easily be arranged through ncbytrain.org on a computer or smartphone or the Amtrak app.
To celebrate, the spring and coming summer seasons, the ever-popular "Kids Ride for $5" will be offered mid-week (Tuesdays - Thursdays) all month and on the weekend of May 9-11. This opportunity is becoming an annual tradition for many North Carolina families to ride the rails and spend time together. Use discount code V615 when purchasing your ticket through this promotion.
