Travel tips for a safe and happy holiday season
RALEIGH - The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. Several of the below stories are also featured in our weekly newscast, N.C. Transportation Now, which can be viewed by

As families prepare to travel for their annual holiday celebrations, NCDOT will suspend most road construction activities on major routes across the state to help make their trips a little smoother. By avoiding traffic delays, drivers can reach their destinations safely and efficiently, while cutting down on fuel consumption and costs.
Due to the increase in drunk-driving-related fatalities around the holidays each year, state and local law enforcement agencies will actively search for and arrest impaired drivers as part of the statewide holiday Booze It & Lose It campaign. The campaign runs through Jan. 3.
