CHARLOTTECrews will be shifting traffic into a new pattern tonight at the I-85 interchange with U.S. 29/601 as part of continuingwork on theI-85 widening project, I-3802A,in Cabarrus County.
Southbound I-85 traffic accessing southbound U.S.29/601 via Exit 58 will be shifted to a new pattern Wednesday night.Instead of using the existing collector lanes and loop to get to Southbound US-29/601, trafficwill use a new signalized interchange at the top of the ramp.
Motorists are asked to take extra precautionin the work zone,includingpaying attention to all signs and message boards directing traffic into its new pattern.
NCDOT is constructing four additional general-purpose travel lanes (two in each direction) to approximately eight miles of I-85 from north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55) to north of Lane Street (Exit 63) in Cabarrus County. Interchange improvements are also planned for interchanges at U.S. 29/601 (Exit 58), Dale Earnhardt Boulevard (Exit 60) and Lane Street (Exit 63).
This project will complete the expansion of I-85 through the county, providing a greater level of service for local and through traffic.
