Traffic Shifts Beginning Sunday on I-85 Widening Project in Cabarrus County

CHARLOTTE -On Sunday, June 28, the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin implementing traffic shifts on Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County as part of the I-85 widening project, I-3802A. The shifts will cause no reduction in the existing number of travellanes, so traffic should continue to flow as normal after the shifts arein place.

Traffic will be shifted out of its existing pattern on I-85 slightly north of N.C. 73, and then will be shifted back into the existing pattern slightly south of U.S. 29/601. Work will be completed between the hours of8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

Northbound I-85 traffic will be shifted onSunday night, and southbound I-85 traffic will be shiftedon Monday night in the same location. After the new traffic pattern is in place, portable concrete barriers will be installed.

Once completed, the trafficshifts will allow crewsto begin work in the I-85 median. Thispattern will be in place for roughly16-24 months.
