Two Kings Mountain Railroad Crossings Scheduled to Close Temporarily Next Week for Improvement Project

CHARLOTTE-The N.C. Department of Transportation is temporarily closing two Kings Mountain railroad crossings while crews make improvements that include adding sidewalks and planter boxes.The project is designed to improve crossing safety in the area by preventing tractor trailers from accessing the crossings.

The Norfolk Southernrailroad crossings at West Mountain Street and West Gold Street between N.C. 216 and South Railroad Avenuewill be closed beginning Monday, June 15. The contract completion date is Aug. 31.

Message boards are in place alerting motorists of the upcoming closures. All traffic will be detoured to East King Street (U.S. 74 Business), one block north of Mountain Street, for the duration of the project.

Smith Construction Corporation is the contractor for the is $204,286 project.
