CHARLOTTE The bridge onConcordAvenue over U.S. 74 inMonroe will be closed for about oneweekafter a hit-and-run crash damaged part of the bridge. A signed detour is now in place to help direct motorists around the bridge while repairs are underway.
Motorists willtravel from Concord Avenue to U.S.601, then to Pedro Street and back to Concord Avenue. At this time, the repairs are estimated to last through Friday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m.
Crews were on site yesterday inspecting the bridge after reports of damage, andfurtheranalysis of the inspection reportrevealed thebridge needed to close because ofgirder damage. A girder is a large beam that helps support vertical loads on the bridge.
The bridge was likely struck by heavy equipment from a vehicle traveling eastbound on U.S. 74, below the bridge. It appears thevehicle didn't stop at the scene.
