Editor's Note: The closure of the Kannapolis railroad crossing initially plannedfor Monday, April 13, has been rescheduled to next week because of weather. The updated news release below reflects this change.
CHARLOTTE--On Monday, April 20, theN.C. Department of Transportationwill temporarily close a portion of Old U.S. 29A/Kannapolis Highway/South Main Street just north of Winecoff School Road in Kannapolis to repair a railroad crossing.
NCDOT will close the Duke Energy-maintained crossing around 10 a.m.on Monday to begin prep work for the repairs. The project contractor will begin the crossing repairs Tuesday, with most work completed by late Wednesday, weather permitting. Some lane closures might be needed Thursday while NCDOT finishes up replacing the crossing's asphalt.
Motorists will utilize Rogers Lake Road/Universal Street, N.C. 3 and U.S. 29 to get around the closure.
