CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will briefly halt traffic onI-85during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 4, while crews perform utility work related to the interstatewideningproject, I-3802A,in Cabarrus County.
The rolling roadblock will begin Thursday at 4:30 a.m., and closures will last 15 minutes, at most. Crews will implement a rolling roadblock that allows them to temporarily close a portion of the interstate and its ramps while they pull a utility line across the highway.
The rolling road block will start at mile marker52 on I-85 North. As construction vehicles come by, the on-ramps at mile markers 54 and 55 will be blocked to allow crews to perform the work safely.
For southbound I-85, the rolling road block will start at mile marker63. The on-ramp at mile marker60 and the on-ramp from the rest stop will be blocked as construction vehicle pass by. Inaddition, crewswill be stopping traffic at the on-ramp to Exit 58 on I-85 Northwhile they pull wire across, as well asthe off-ramp to Exit 58 on I-85 Southas they do the same thing.
Because of the temporary nature of the closings, there will be no posted detour routes.
The utility work is part of continued work on the project to widen I-85 from north of N.C. 73 to north of Lane Street in Cabarrus County. NCDOT started work on the project last month.
