Winston-Salem - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors must close all lanes of U.S. 52 North and South this Saturday, Nov. 12, between Rams Drive and Waughtown Street while City of Winston-Salem contractors safely install Gateway Arches along the Salem Creek Connector Project.
"Taking cues from the arch shape frequently found in Moravian architecture, the design for the Twin Arches was a chance for the city's infrastructure to say something unique about this city and region," said Kristen Haff with The Creative Corridors Coalition.
"We are excited to finally see the first piece of iconic infrastructure we've invested in take shape and are equally excited for the many roadway enhancements that have already been constructed along the length of the corridor," added Lee French, also with The Creative Corridors Coalition.
The 13-hour closure will begin at 5 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. on Saturday. During the closure for the installations; NCDOT maintenance crews will also be making concrete pavement repairs. Both projects are being done at the same time to help lessen the impact to the traveling public.
Southbound traffic will be detoured using I-40 Business West and Peters Creek Parkway; while northbound traffic will use I-40 West and Peters Creek Parkway in the opposite direction.
