The ceremony will be held at the end of old Turner Road, adjacent to the new Turner Road bridge between Lexington and Thomasville.

Directions:

From I-85, take Exit 96 onto U.S. 64.

Proceed west for 1/4 mile.

Turn right on Bowers Road and proceed 1/4 mile.

Turn left on Holly Grove Road and proceed 1/4 mile.

Turn left on Turner Road and proceed 1.8 miles.

In advance of the new bridge over the railroad, turn left onto Old Turner Road.

Parking will be along Old Turner Road.

Deputy Secretary for Transit Keith Weatherly, Rail Director Paul Worley and Board of Transportation member Jake Alexander will speak. The project is part of the Piedmont Improvement Program, a $520 million investment in rail and highway improvements between Raleigh and Charlotte. This project is one of three that will add a total of approximately 26 miles of new second track along the main line, providing an uninterrupted double track spanning 92 miles between Greensboro and Charlotte. Work included construction of four miles of second track along the North Carolina Railroad Company main line corridor in Davidson County allowing trains to pass more frequently, reducing congestion, increasing capacity and reliability, and decreasing travel time between Raleigh and Charlotte.
