Bridge Over Pantego Creek in Beaufort County to be Closed Starting June 15

New and Better Bridge on its Way

Greenville - The N.C. Department of Transportation will close all lanes of the U.S. 264 Bridge over Pantego Creek on Wednesday, June 15 to begin a bridge replacement project. The closure is expected to remain in place until mid-December.

There will be a signed detour route using Swamp Road, Wilkinson Station Road, and Swindell/ Pungo Road. An alternate route for motorists heading east to Belhaven is to take Seed Tick Neck Road to N.C. 99 into Belhaven.

The new bridge will replace a bridge that was built in 1950 and is functionally obsolete and structurally deficient. That means while it has remained safe, it was in more constant need of repairs. It was also built to standards no longer used. The new bridge will be able to carry commercial as well as standard vehicles.

The NCDOT's bridge program targets structures that need rehabilitation or replacement across the state. The 2015 Budget signed by Governor McCrory funded replacement of 540 bridges across the state.
