Raleigh - Drivers
who use U.S. 264 Alternate to cross over Toisnot Swamp east of Wilson need to
be ready to use a detour effective February 1. The highway will be closed at
that location as the current 67-year-old bridge over the swamp is being
replaced.
The project, being
handled by Sanford Contractors, Inc. is part of a contract that calls for
replacing five other bridges in Wilson County and two in Wayne County.
The work is expected
to take 195 days from the start, with the expected completion date being in
mid-August.
The signed detour in
place has drivers coming from Wilson using N.C. 58 to reach U.S. 264 at exit
49, then traveling two miles east to get to the exit for U.S. 264 Alternate (Exit
51). Motorists heading toward Wilson can continue on U.S. 264 West to N.C. 58.
Drivers are urged to
allow extra time to reach their destinations because of the detour.
