Raleigh - The Department of Transportation has re-opened the bridge at N.C. 59 in the Hope Mills community of Cumberland County.
The bridge had been closed since early October due to damage from heavy rains prior to Hurricane Matthew. The hurricane caused further damage to the bridge.
Contractors rebuilt both approaches (roadway connections on either end) of the bridge. All lanes of traffic are now open.
The bridge will remain open throughout the holiday season. In early 2017, lane closures will be needed to complete the remaining work underneath the bridge.
