Wilmington - The N.C. 24 East Bypass bridge over U.S. 421 and northbound U.S. 701 in Clinton will close Thursday, July 21, at 9 a.m. and reopen by 12 p.m. The closure is necessary for crews to make repairs to the asphalt.
The bridge is safe for travel, however the asphalt approaching the bridge has settled, creating a rough transition onto the bridge deck. The Department on Transportation will level the asphalt to make it a smoother ride.
During the closure, traffic will detour to the U.S. 421/701 South Bypass and Tram Road. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect possible delays. NCDOT reminds drivers to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
