Winston-Salem - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the bridge carrying Bud Sink Road over Leonard Creek, closing the road between Ridge Road and Bethesda Road north of Lexington.
Work will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 15. The new bridge should be open by June 3.
Motorists will navigate around the work using an offsite detour using Ridge Road and Bethesda Road. Local traffic will still be able to access locations on either side of the bridge up to the point of closure at the construction area.
This bridge project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Built in 1965, the existing bridge is structurally deficient, functionally obsolete and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
