- A portion of Riverbend Road in Catawba County will close on Monday, March 28, while crews replace an aging bridge.
The bridge over Elk Shoal Creek was built in 1965 and is considered functionally obsolete and structurally deficient. This means that the bridge, although safe for traffic, needs to be replaced in order to meet the demands of the traffic that uses it.
A signed detour will be in place directing motorists to use Rest Home Road and Oxford School Road.
The bridge replacement project is scheduled for completion in late July.
This project is included in a $4 million contract to replace a total of five bridges in Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, Lincoln and Iredell counties. The contractor is Dellinger, Inc.
Additional information about the bridge replacement project can be found here.
