Greenville - Daily closures of the right lane in each direction on the Morehead City-Atlantic Beach Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway and Bogue Sound will continue early next week. They will be in place from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, through 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27.
The closures are necessary for Department of Transportation crews to inspect the bridge for an upcoming preservation project that is anticipated to have a contract awarded as early as December. It is not work that can be done at night, or that can wait until after the summer.
NCDOT's bridge program targets structures that need rehabilitation or replacement across the state. Governor McCrory's budget for 2016 - 2017 increases repair and replacement funding for bridges by 58 percent, totaling $242 million.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect possible delays. Motorists are also reminded to stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
