Greensboro - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the bridge carrying Compton Road over East Fork Eno River; closing the road between N.C. 86 and Carr Store Road north of Hillsborough.
Work will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22. The new bridge should be open by July 22.
Motorists will be directed around the work on an offsite detour using N.C. 86 and Carr Store Road.
This bridge project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Built in 1962, the existing bridge is structurally deficient and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it. It remains safe, but needs more constant attention and needs to be replaced.
