Raleigh - The N.C. Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to build a road to provide access to the Novo Nordisk site in Clayton.
The $6.1 million contract was awarded to PLT Construction Company, Inc. of Wilson, the lowest bidder as required by state law. Construction began on Monday, Nov. 28. The road is scheduled to be complete by Nov. 15, 2017. The project completion date, which includes planting and reforestation, is May 14, 2018.
The road is being paid for with funds specifically for economic development projects. In March, Governor Pat McCrory helped break ground on the new $1.8 billion manufacturing facility, the largest single manufacturing investment in state history.
The new road will connect from Gordon Road and includes a bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
